ISO 14001 certification for a residential building contractor
Guildmore Construction provides design and build services for customers in the residential sector in the London area. From its head office in Bromley, the company manages multiple construction sites from demolition and clearance, through design, procurement, construction, handover and after sales care.
We had already assisted our client to create an entirely new Business Management System, gaining UKAS-accredited certification to ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 in previous projects. Now we were invited back to help redesign and rationalise legacy environmental procedures into a new ISO 14001 system which integrated seamlessly with the BMS.

Implementation
Our client was being increasingly asked about ISO 14001 by their customers and it had become clear to them that their existing environmental procedures were no longer fit for purpose. We started with our signature Gap and Synergy Assessment with Action Plan (GSAAP) and this, coupled this with our intimate knowledge of the BMS structure, enabled us to swiftly steer Guildmore through the process and requirements of ISO 14001, in a collaborative way. Deliverables included simplified documentation, effective site audits and value-adding management review.
The client’s approach from the start was to drive sustainability and reduce waste. It was great working with a company who did not view ISO 14001 as a tick-box exercise but as a step on the way to their goal of carbon-neutrality.
Our client gained ISO 14001 certification with only 1 minor non-conformity. Their drive towards a more sustainable business has led to less waste going into landfill by engaging with the right contractors to monitor the different waste streams on sites.
Q! Feedback
"After working closely with Kevin at QFactorial for several years, Graham (also from QFactorial) was introduced to the business in early 2021 to assist with Guildmore's ISO 9001/45001 surveillance audit in May 2021 and subsequent re-certification in September 2021. Graham was pivotal throughout the preparation stages, undertaking internal audits and providing in-depth documentation reviews to satisfy the criteria dictated by UKAS and NQA. Guildmore passed both audits and were successfully re-certified for ISO 9001 & 45001. This success continued under Graham's guidance with the ISO 14001 certification audit in March 2022 which Guildmore again passed. Both QFactorial and Graham have been invaluable to the Guildmore Main Contracting division, and we have been delighted with the service provided over the last year or so. Graham's knowledge and experience in particular has been fundamental in securing the accreditations we require to operate."
