Red Penguin Marine is a leading, independent, multidisciplinary marine and cable-engineering consultancy, delivering expertise, management solutions and strategic advice to the submarine cable sector.
The first challenge laid down by Red Penguin was for QFactorial to redesign their business management system in a way that would reflect the operations and culture of the business whilst still meeting the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. The second challenge was to manage the change to ensure continuity of ISO and Achilles approvals, including transition from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001.

Our bespoke gap and synergy diagnostic provided the foundation for a comprehensive action plan with collaboration and integration at its core. The plan gave ample opportunity for us to challenge and improve ways of working, especially at the system management level where we designed a clear one-page roadmap and deployed our standard leadership toolkit to streamline processes and reduce the administrative burden on the Red Penguin team.
We love it when a plan comes together, but rarely does it happen with such smoothness – a testament to the level of client commitment displayed throughout. We’ve already worked through our full mantra on this project – collaborate, integrate, challenge, improve – but we are nonetheless looking forward to the next iteration as we continue our engagement.
With a new BMS Manual at its core, the business management system is now fully integrated. Common structures and processes are supported by specific rules and tools for health and safety, quality and environmental management. Key documentation, audits and review cycles are now aligned, and process ownership is devolved into the team.

Kevin has worked tirelessly, assisting us with re-structuring our Business Management System and in our transfer from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001. His guidance and advice were tailored uniquely to our business model and as a result we achieved a 100% score in all three of our ISO certifications and Achilles UVDB, a great outcome after the first eight months’ involvement.
